Your First Lagree Class: 10 Things We'd Tell Our Best Friend
Trying something new can feel intimidating. We get it.
Maybe you've seen the videos. Maybe someone warned you about "the shakes." Maybe you've been putting off booking your first class because you're waiting until you're "in better shape."
Spoiler: you don't need to be.
Every single person in our studio, from the instructor coaching class to the member celebrating their 500th visit, once walked through the door for the very first time.
So if you're wondering what to expect, here's everything we'd tell our best friend before their first Lagree class:
1. Arrive a Little Early. You'll Thank Yourself Later.
Give yourself about 10-15 extra minutes.
Not because you'll need to study for a quiz, but because the Megaformer isn't your average piece of gym equipment. We'll show you how it works, explain the moving carriage, answer any questions and make sure you feel comfortable before class begins.
The goal isn't to survive your first class. It's to actually enjoy it.
2. Slow Is the Secret
This surprises almost everyone.
The slower you move, the harder Lagree becomes.
You won't find explosive movements or racing through reps. Instead, you'll move with intention, spending time where your muscles are working the hardest.
It's humbling… in the best way.
3. If You Shake, You're Doing It Right
Let's clear this one up now.
Your legs might shake.
Your abs might shake.
Your arms might shake.
That's not a sign you're weak. It's a sign your muscles are being challenged in a way they're probably not used to.
Even our instructors still shake.
Welcome to the club.
4. Nobody Is Watching You
Really.
Everyone is too busy trying to survive the next 60 seconds of class.
The beauty of Lagree is that everyone is working at their own level. Some people take modifications. Some pause for a breath. Some have been coming for years.
The only comparison worth making is between today's version of you and the one that walks back through our doors next week.
5. Your Instructor Is On Your Team
One of the things that makes Lagree different is the coaching.
Your instructor isn't standing at the front counting reps. They're walking the room, fine-tuning your form, offering encouragement, and helping you get the most out of every movement.
If we make an adjustment, it's because we know you're capable of more and not because you're doing something "wrong."
6. Grip Socks Are Non-Negotiable
Fashionable? Yes.
Functional? Also yes.
Grip socks help keep you stable on the moving carriage and make every movement safer. If you forget yours, we've got you covered.
7. Hydration Is Part of the Workout
You'll probably leave class feeling stronger than when you walked in. You'll also earn that feeling.
Drink water before class, bring a bottle with you and replenish afterward. Your muscles will thank you tomorrow.
8. The First Class Isn't the Test
Think of your first class as learning the language.
You'll hear new exercise names, learn how the machine moves and figure out where your hands and feet belong. That's exactly what it's supposed to feel like.
By your third or fourth class, everything starts clicking.
And that's usually when the obsession begins.
9. You Might Be Sore Tomorrow
Actually... there's a pretty good chance you will be.
Not because Lagree is high impact, it’s not.
It's because you'll recruit muscles that don't always get invited to the party.
A walk, plenty of water, quality sleep, and a little movement the next day usually go a long way.
10. Keep Coming Back
Here's the thing about Lagree:
The goal isn't to master it in one class.
It's to keep showing up.
Every workout feels different. Every class teaches you something new. Every visit builds strength that carries far beyond the studio walls.
That's where the magic happens.
What Should You Bring?
Keep it simple.
Grip socks
A water bottle
Comfortable workout clothes
An open mind
We'll take care of the rest.
How Often Should Beginners Come?
If you're just getting started, aim for 2–3 classes per week.
That gives your body enough time to recover while building consistency—the real secret behind seeing results.
Like anything worthwhile, progress comes from showing up again before your confidence tells you you're ready.
Final Thoughts
Your first Lagree class probably won't feel perfect.
You'll forget which spring to use once or twice. You'll wonder how something moving so slowly can feel so hard. You'll laugh at least once when your legs start shaking.
And then you'll leave realizing you just did something you weren't sure you could do.
That's what we love most about Lagree.
The workout lasts 40-45 minutes. The confidence you build from proving to yourself you can do hard things? That tends to stick around a little longer.
We'll save you a spot.
